Unknown listen port

All right so you've all probably heard this one before, but I'm actually getting really frustrated. I started portforwarding so I could optimize the speed of the client. Now everything was going great, I also just noticed that there was sign-up button, so I signed up. My download rate was crazy at first, going up to about 2mb/s it was the highest I've ever seen it. But it then nose dived to about 35kb/s....so I signed up, did some port forwarding and bang....it soared...then dropped again...but not as low this time....only to about 100-150kb/s....not amazing...but bearable.

That was all great...and it worked for all of an hour. Now I've restarted my computer and I have my auto-sign in ready. But all it does is try to connect, and my listen port which was previously working great is now completely unknown. I know how to make static IP's...but that doesn't seem to help at all...it just perpetually searchs for a listen port and a server to sign on to. It's crazy and very infuriating.
