J read recently that Clint Eastwood made history with the introduction of a new type of caracter like "Dirty Harry". Perharps nobody remembers that Eastwood was one of the thousand caracters in an american western series like "Bonanza" : a promising talent but nothing else. His status changed completely only when Sergio Leone called him for to play the quiet, cool, ice- looking pistolero in "A fistfull of dollars". Well, the rest is well known. What nobody seems to play attention is that Mr. Eastwood kept this caracter for all is splendid career. First with the "Dirty Harry" type, trough "The Pale Rider" until the four times Oscar winner western-classic "The Unforgiven". Now try to remember the old, quiet, ice-looking pistolero of this last film with the one of "A Fistfull of Dollars", "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". Rings any bells? I'ts a pity that Mr. Eastwood (eternal thanks for his "A Million Dollars Baby") never took the chance to mention just once his discover and mentor: Sergio Leone.
