Light with split personality

I am having a problem that I can't seem to find anyone else with - hopefully someone will spot this and offer some advice.
My light changes colour from green to orange when I start to download...I have configured bitcomet, and router, and firewall as advised elsewhere and I have the green light when bitcomet starts - canyouseeme.org also confirms the port is open.
As soon as I start to download, some remote peers are listed and then one by one they disappear...and when I recheck my IP it turns orange. And now canyouseeme.org suffers a connection timed out.
This happens on both my machines, each with a different port configured and specified on the router.
Frustrating.
Am using Vista on both, bitcomet v1.03 and v1.07, ISP is Virgin Media, router is Belkin FSD9230-4
