bitcomet is making my wireless router drop its internet connection

i am running bitcomet 1.07 on windows xp 64 bit my internet connection is a motorolla cable modem and a belkin wireless g router. The problem that i am having is that bitcomet keeps making my router loose its internet connection. when i download torrents everything works fine for the first 10 to 20 minutes and then all of a sudden all my downloads and uploads will drop down to zero and my connected light will be blinking on my router. the wierd part is that it is only the internet side of the router not the local wireless from within the house because i can still stream files to my ps3 and my nas hard drive. the ps3 is wireless and the nas is wired. none of the lights on bitcomet go out and none of the lights on the cable modem go out the only one is the connected light on my router. the only way to fix this problem is to unplug the cable modem and plug it back in and then my router will re establish the connection and then it will fail in ten minutes. the problem seems to happen quicker the more downloads i have going but it still happens sometimes even with one. i have replaced the cable modem and called technical support and they ensure me it is not the modem.i have reset the router and checked the settings with no luck also. this problem only occurs with bitcomet and does not happen if i plug the computer directly to the modem. my only other guess is the tcp ip connections limit is at 200 but i dont know how to change it and its only a guess. please help

travis

Do you have a download limit with your broad band provider? I have now, since I received my free wireless router from AOL - couldn't download anything. I un-installed their software and reset the router to network only setting. Some providers also change IP addresses randomly. I found that out when I tried to access my home PC from somewhere else.

Since I connected my PC via ethernet cable the problem is gone :)

mi internet provider told me there is no limit and that there is no reason my modem should drop its signal.

update

earlier i wrote that the problem wouldnt happen if i plug the computer directto the modem but thats notthe case the problem still occurs without the router in the picture.

Im having the same problem,I would start a download with bitcomet and in 10-15 minutes the download and upload will go to zero and my internet would be dead and all I can do is turn off the computer and wait a few hours and then all will be fine again untill I try to use bitcomet to download something again and it does it over and over, its pure BS.

I am having the same problem. I have a wired network with multiple computers. All computers have connectivity problems when bitcomet runs on one computer. They all have different firewalls so it can't be that. For some reason if an instant messaging program is already running before bitcomet starts, there are no issues with the instant messenger.

What's up with this?!

i have the same thing. the instant messengers work, couse they use IP only, no DNS. i dont want to write the same thing in two different posts, so here is my problem:

my router lights flash when surfing and when downloading and sometimes pages time out when using bitcomet but it never drops out completly. i am wireless on an unlimited 8m/bit package actual speedtest averages show about 4/5m/bit. does all this sound normal. the internet lights flashing i mean.

the flashing lights is normal on some routers 1 is for the actual connection in yourcase wireless ,mycase lan and the other is the actual line ,this is intended to keep the line stable with the best possible speeds [according to my isp]and all its doing is showing you its doing its job.

AS to the connection dropping out its possible the router cant handle that many max open connections and its basically overloading and shutting down

cheers

You should all try using traffic shaping software such as cfos speed.

why?

BitComet needs to open a large number of tcp and udp connections, and some routers/modems cannot handle this as well as others.

Most manufacturers will supply firmware updates to resolve such problems, so that would be the first place to check.

If you can't resolve it that way, limiting the number of global max connections in bitcomet would be your only option, but this could effect your performance.
