i recently had my ISP turn off my service because I downloaded a movie from paramount studios and they contacted my ISP and told them I downloaded a pirated copy of their movie and to discontinue my service. How did this happen?

I recommend you install Peer Guardian, which will block connections with "known" hostile IP addresses.

Many anti p2p groups run popular torrents to gather IP addresses, and use them in a complaining campaign to intimidate ISPs. These warnings are ignored by many ISPs, and just because they had a complaint, its not proof you did infact download anything, so it sounds like having your service disconnected was a rather harsh thing to do, but you might want to check your laws and see if that was something they were intitled to do where you live.

Personally, I'd look for a better ISP if I was you.

This sounds quiet serious - does Peer Guardian get updated from time to time once you have installed it?

Cheers

yeah i just downloaded peer gurdian. they promptly turned my service back on when I called the ISP but they said the can only do it 3 times then they can no longer offer me service. I just felt kinda violated there, lol. I mean, what bissiness is it of theres what I'm downloading, why dont they focus on the guy that leaked the video in the first place.

Could you leak a name of the ISP? Perhaps as a whisper if you want to stay completely anonymous. They sound way to harsh and don't deserve any custom

I'd love to leak there name, but there a small company so probly nobody that will read this actually has them. They are called broad stripe, they provide cable tv and high speed internet to a small portion of mid michigan

peer guardian can automatically update the lists daily. I recommend only the p2p, government, ads and spyware lists. The lists from bluetack are very bloated, and could prevent you from downloading. Also, some of the best seeders are using college computers, so don't use the educational lists.

so I should block p2p goverment and spyware but not education. should i enable http blocking? I noticed when i do I cant bring up some web sites so i had to disable it

Yes, no need to block http when using bitcomet

I don't understand how anyone could turn off your service except you!!! How does someone call your ISP and say "oh they are downloading illegal stuff so shut their service off". It is not the ISP business what you do with your connection...they just provide you with the connction and are not responsible for what you do with it!!!!

I agree, an auto manufacturer doesn't repossess your car if you use it for illegal purposes lol
