A week of building to discover this game is absurd...

My kid wanted me to play with him, and I've spent a week accomplishing tasks and building my army. I looted one guy, and then went after another. To my surprise I find that he shifted all his resources to the market, so when my army arrives, I get like 32 grain. To make matters worse, he laughs about it, as though the childish maneuver is worthy of boasting.

If the game is designed not to reward skill and foresight, what is the point? By allowing these 'cheats', the purpose of the game is perverted. It's not fun, it's not educational, and those who are diligent are not rewarded.

If I'm missing something, please educate me.

I still think resources on the market should be able to be looted. I mean, you can shift resources to another base, but that is legit..Market is not a bank!

CATAKLYSM111 Sat May 23, 09 05:47 PM

well like i said on previous posting u want to screw the player over if they hide their stuff in market then buy them all once u did that he has to choices take it off the market or be screwed on resources and make sure u do it with ur 2nd or 3rd base its freaking hilarious specially when u take all their steel and oil away hahahahahahahaha

I loot plenty, this game DOES reward foresight... You're just not insightful enough...

If you value realism and see the game as both enjoyment and education, for a possible future in the armed forces or even simply a preparatory tool for a time when you don't live with your parents, then the current game rules which allow a player to 'take his ball home' and essentially withdraw from reality, well, that's what's absurd.

Game administrators could easily change the rules to make resources 'for sale' still within the city, which is how they are in real life. When I put my house on the market, it's still mine and can still be burned down, vandalized or destroyed.

Scratchitandc (what?) Sat May 23, 09 12:47 PM

Yeah - if this game was based on reality mines would not consume grain and the planes you purchase would actually be and look like what they are supposed to be and the P-47 Thunderbolt in allied would not be described as "The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt is effective in air combat but proved especially adept at ground attack" but not having both zero attack capability for troops and armour and just be an air combat plane - and in the real world you would not be able to "cure" your troops by purchasing gold - this is a resource management strategy game - a bit like C&C... This is a game not reality and thats why in a free market system pple would not sell say oil for steel at 1.50 and .75 in the same trading system...

Its not a question of taking your ball home - you don't like it because I can out-think the strategy you are using (note here not saying I can out think you - just the strategy you are presently using!), a bit like the British learning to discard strategies when battling the Nazi's in Africa - that the American's then used so stupidly (and the British had long discarded) when invading Italy.... Like those battles - you must adapt if you are to succeed!!!

But most of all pple - please stop comparig everything to the real worl - This is a GAME - only loosly tied to WWII and it is still in beta!!!

Scratchitandc (what?) Sat May 23, 09 12:55 PM

P.S. If you want a game that is better based on reality in WWI - Try Panzers Phase I & II or D-Day or 1994 - they all have accurate info on unitts and relative strength - have really v. good graphics (esp as they are a few years old now so will play with all eye-candy switched to full on almost any machine built in the last year or two) - and you can destroy buildings and you don't have to pay for gold to purchase anything!!!

Scratchitandc (what?) Sat May 23, 09 12:36 PM

Actually when pple attack me - and I 'hide' my resources - I ALWAYS reply with a taunt - its like how dare you think me so stupid to build resources for you to just march in and take my respurces away from me after you just come in and build for a week - and I spent over 4 weeks of base building and actual physical cash on accumulating...

This is like WWII in that you had to adapt your strategy - this is a strategy nased game played over weeks and months - not an arcade game that you can master in a week - so look at it this way - you know that this guy was around to switch his finances only minutes before your troops arrive - so try 12 hours from then - he has to sleep sometime and try to avoid weekend attacks as pple at home not at work so more chances of the spotting the attack... Also build intelligence and spies and do research before attack (if they have no troops/defenses its for a reason - they have another strategy to protect their resources - theres no such thing as a free lunch in life - and therefore neither is there likely to be in this game - they way you are playing is likely to result in victory only because of the stupidity of others and not your current strategy - and both you and your sone can learn and play together...

Hope you remain in the game though as you seem genuine enough to want to succeed!!! Good luck!!!!

Taunts create anger, anger causes Mistakes, thats a Great!! Tactic

Scratchitandc (what?) Sat May 23, 09 01:52 PM

You cotton on quick my friend - though beware the scurge that is Lily!!! She is being v. quiet - a great opponont in CB - She is biding her time but remaining in the running - I am watching closly as I have a score to settle!!1

I appreciate the insight into the purpose of the game. Obviously anyone who is playing the game needs to adapt to the rules of the game, so those who are using the rules (however poorly thought-out those rules may be) to their advantage.

Of course this is only a game, and therefore not like real war. Most importantly, no one is killed and no destruction is accomplished. I recognize that taunting is common in games, but it's a reflection of a lack of maturity and you won't find it among virtuous warriors. For them the means by which you prosecute the war and the accomplishment are sufficient reward.

I find the tactic of being able to 'hide' resources on the open market a serious flaw in an otherwise impressive game. There are lots of reasons to sell your resources at a discount (e.g., needing to sell quickly). I understand that I'm likely a decade or two older than most players here, but I think it would be better if the strategy games prepare younger players for the real world in whatever ways possible.

Scratchitandc (what?) Sat May 23, 09 04:46 PM

A few things -

This is a game and not meant as a life simulation - there is no substitute for life!!!

Try teaching anyone anything with WWII equipment - the King Panzer - argueably the best bit of kit on the WWII battlefield - or even the V2 - without doubt the most technically proficient bit of kit in WWII (bar the A bomb - but only in in terms of sheer fire-power)... You will be blown to simthereens in any modern battle - WWII is not good for contemporary tank -v- aircraft -v- infintantry debate - the world has moved on - a piolotless drone can do much more than any of those WWII resources - even if they were combined (a small nucluer device can be droped from a drone by one guy a thousand miles away!)...

So you wanna teach your son lessons relivant for the moddern age (and that is a laudable goal!)... Try strategy - when you go after something - and somehing is in your way - how do you find your way around that obsticle??? Much more of todays world will be virtual by the time your son is your age than it is for you now or you could ever imagine - Teach him strategy - what was relivant two thousand years ago is as relivant now - see Roman strategy for training and defence/attack strategy - let alone what the Goths etc. did to undermine that strategy. Don't fixate about who can actually blow up a building - this game is based on strategy - not reality! Adapt or die - now thats a lesson worth teaching!!!!

Scratchitandc (what?) Sat May 23, 09 04:53 PM

P.S. and if you think hiding has nothing to teach your son - then having seen through the 'hiding strategy' you can answer the fl;oowing:

1. The missing artwork/bullion that went missing from Nazi Germany. Where is it now?

2. Tne 'great Train Robber' in the 1960's (UK) - where is the cash now?

3. The missing treasure's looted from Iraq during the 1st and 2nd Gulf Wars. Where are they now?

4. Who owns the literally billions of dollors in untouched Swiz bank accounts since or just after WWII - who did they get there and who can withdraw those sums?

5. In the recent global banking crisis - the people who sold 'short' on banking stocks and caused the collapse of banks ccross the worls (and an entire country in Greenland) - where did the money go?

6. You see - hiding stuff - but doing it well - is part of life!!! Whether police or crook - all one does is find - the other evades - strategy - teach your son how that works that and he may yet rule the world!!!

Q.E.D.
