Multiple Problems

I have a Dell XPS 1710. I am running Windows Media Edition with SP3. We are using PC-cillin for firewall and anti-virus. We are also using Bridemaxx for an internet connection. We have done every port forwarding tactic we have come across, both through windows and Pc-Cillin. The light will turn green every once in a blue moon, sometimes for a week and then we are back to yellow (where we are most of the time.). We can not browse the internet while Bitcomet is running. When we are done with BitComet we have to reset the Ip configuration to be able to browse online again. Also when BitComet is running speeds start out fair about 60kps then most times within an hour we are done to 2kps, if anything at all. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. I am getting frustrated.

Thanks!!

Are you using a router?

I don't know. Bridgemaxx calls it a modem, others call it a router. The piece itself is stamped AC/DC converter.

How do I tell? It isn't on the router list that I am often sent to when looking at port forwarding.

ac/dc converter is a powersupply that provides power to another device. That device could be a modem, a router, or a combination of both.

Bacally, if its wifi then its a router, if its ethernet, and there are more then one port, its a router. This could be a router and modem device.

If there is only one ethernet connection, then its probably only a modem, in which case something on your computer, firewall or security software is blocking you.

I have a wireless antenna on the roof that runs in the house and hooks up to this box I'm talking about. The box then connects to both an outlet and then my computer. So what am I looking at? What is it that I have?

If your internet comes to your house from an antenna, then you don't have a typical wifi wireless, where the internet comes in on a cable, then your wireless router transmits it within your home. I'm not exactly sure what you have, but it sounds like it may be a cellular broadband, or something similar. In this case, there is nothing you can do unless your ISP can give you a port dedicated for your use.

Basically your behind a router, but its a router controlled by your ISP. If this is so, then your never going to get an open listening port.

One option you can try is a version of BitComet that supports NAT Traversal. This will allow "some" remote connections, but is not as good as having an open port.

I recently edited our support wiki to refelect which version support this.

Version 1.02 was the last that supported NAT Traversal

We went back and download version 1.02 again. It does seem to help a little, though I am unsure if there is anyway to optimize it. My speeds are still a high of 60kbps but at least they are a little more consistent 30-40kbps that will last all night. To top it off for about an hour after I turn bitcomet on I can also browse the internet, but then like before that part quits and I have to reset my ip configuration if I want to keep working on the internet. So over all it is better.

Thanks

Set NAT Traversal to "always" in your options if your certain your listening port is blocked.

I'd also recommend you set your max upload to 80% of your tested upload speed (speedtest.net has a good test).

If your using LTseeding, then set max upload to 70% and LTseed to 10%.

also, be sure your comparing the speeds correctly, bitcomet uses kB/s NOT kb/s.
