Bitcomet 1.12 Hangs On Vista

Hi,

I just finish downloading and installing Bitcomet 1.12. Before that i was using Bitcomet 0.99 but AVG (anti virus said that it had a trojan virus inside).

My current specs are:

MS Vista Home Premium

Service Pack 2

Lenovo Idea Pad Y430

Inter Core2 Duo P8400

4GB DDR3 RAM(although only 3 GB is readable)

320GB Harddisk

256MB GeForce 9300M GS

My DHT and WAN is all green. I'm logged in also.

The Problem:

After starting up BitComet, after about 5 mins or so, BitComet just hangs, Task Manager is not able to shut it down, and i cant even off the bloody laptop anymore besides manuel forced shutdown. Basically the program wont even budge. Cant enter it, cant even move the floating window. I have no problems with my desktop which is running on XP SP3. Hoping some kind soul would be able to help me. Thanks in advance.

Forgot to add, i'm running Zone Alarm and AVG. I used to run Avira till Vista told me its not that compatible with Vista.

I suspect Zone Alarm is your problem. It is well known to interfere with p2p usage. There are much better free programs. Disabling Zone Alarm won't fix the problem either, it needs to be removed completely.

I also recommend getting a better Antivirus. AVG finds false positive viruses often, and misses the real ones.

If you want to be able to address the full 4gb of ram, you need to use the 64bit version of Vista.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad with similar specs, and installed Vista Ultimate x64 and bitcomet 1.11 and it works flawlessly. McAfee Total Protection also works very well with all vista versions, but with 64bit Vista, you will need to be connected to the internet because the version that ships on the retail package discs doesn't support 64bit, so it needs to download it during install.

If you want a free firewall, try kerio or outpost, and avast antivirus is probably a little better then AVG, but I use only kaspersky and mcafee.
