bitcomet crashing?

My BC keeps crashing every time I leave it downloading. I've been using the program for years without any problems but it's driving me mad at the moment. Anyone got any suggestions?

Regards

First suggestion is that you read the rules for requesting support, they are there to help you, because without more info, your only wasting your time and ours.

it may be software conflict.

try to close other programs, when you download by BC.

I have the same problem too. I upgraded to 1.12 from whatever previous version I had (probably .6) on a Vista and then I was flooded with problems. I think I've had to reset my tasks at least 5 times in two days. It gets old after a while. Seems to me like the more I upgrade, the more screwed I am, and if I don't the annoying popup keeps popping up every single time I open BC telling me to upgrade. I wish I could return to my very first version of BC like..forever ago.

You can download any version of BitComet you like at bitcomet.com. If you like the "classic" bitcomet, then I'd get version 70 (latest version of the old client). I stronly suggest you avoid .71 to .80ish.

Also, the prompt to update is an option you can disable.

I have the same problem also. As soon as I upgraded to my present version of BitComet, 1.12, it started crashing, and would require a system reboot to run again. But Not until I enabled the emule plugin. Since I really do not know how to properly configure this anyway (it would always start up by asking me to "input a valid server list", which I did not know how to do), I have since disabled it.

Also, my crashes would coincide with my running my browser, (Firefox 3.0.10.)I am presently running without the emule plugin and everything seems fine. It did not really seem to speed things up, anyway.

Equipment: I have Windows XP Pro, version 202, Service Pack 3. I have an Intel Core 2 Quad cpu, with a 10,000rpm harddrive. My present BitComet version is 1.12, and I just moved all my components into a new case (I don't know if that matters or not).

I am using ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall, version 6.1.737.000, and ESET Nod32 Antivirus, 4.0.437.0. I have 4 gb of DDR2 Ram.

amaze122, I usually don't reply to people who post in another persons topic, but since you made an effort to provide some info, and the original poster seems to have abandoned this topic, I'll try to help.

Your Zone Alarm firewall is well known to cause problems for p2p programs. I suggest you get another. If you want a good free one, outpost or kerio both are good.

I would also suggest you run "msconfig" from the "run" command, and look at your "startup" tab, and disable anything you don't need to run everytime your computer starts. This may fix conflicts your having. Webcams seem to be one of the most common conflicts. By disabling a startup process, your not removing the program, or stopping your ability to use it, your just not allowing it to start when you don't want to use it. This will also speed up your boot time, and free up system resources.

On an unrelated issue, you may want to consider installing a 64bit windows version, since the 32bit versions have a limit of 3gb of usable ram. I've heard mixed reports about winXP 64bit, but Vista 64 is quite good, and your core2 can run it. Also, you can install vista in a separate partition and still boot your XP if you desire.

What about NIS 09 and KIS 09? Are they good with p2p programs? I went googling and I found out they were being recommended over outpost.

I will never install Norton on any of my computers again. Kaspersky is very good. Their AntiVirus is tops, but their firewall isn't my favorite for novice users.

I am currently using a Bitcomet v1.12, and it crashes frequently. Few problems that I encounter is that, my upload rate shoots up and maintains high which I can monitor through my internet usage gadget on my sidebar but the thing is.. it doesnt show up on the Bitcomet (as in it only shows 0kbps upload) and it cannot be controlled with the global upload limit and scheduler stuffs. There is no other programs running because I configured that on my msconfig.

I believe it is not caused by any spyware or viruses as I have tested with other programs and monitored the internet usage (Its just normal internet usage, nothing wrong). That unusual high upload rate only appears when my bitcomet is on, and because of that my downloads are at real bottom speed. (Note: my eMule is disabled)

My OS is Microsoft Vista 32-bit, Service Pack 2. Using KIS 9 (I offed it during the tests with msconfig)

Also I have a problem installing the BitComet through .exe. The installer just crashes after I clicked the second "I Agree" button everytime. This problem started right after v1.10. I am using non-installation BitComet currently (since v1.11 and v1.12.. It just CRashes all the time!). And I cant remove the dhtnodes.dat and trackers.dat at all so I cant completely remove the whole BitComet. Does that have any effect on my BitComet? Please help me!

Thank you.

disable kis antivirus during the installation of bitcomet/high upload rates are caused usually by the lt seed feature witch you should limit to 5-10% of your max upload speed/ if you really need to delete those files use the unlocker tool (google it if you don't have it)/ if all this does not work go back to the last version that worked.
