Very slow download

I'm currently downloading: "The Sopranos - Complete 1st Season [DVDRip.XviD]". It bounces between 1-2 kB/s.............VERY SLOWWWWWW!!

I'm running XP home with service pack 3. I also ave a lynksys WRT54G2 router which has been properly port forwarded.

Bandwidth test show i have 8208 kbps down and 814 kbps up speed.

Is it just me or maybe the torrent i'm downloading? I rarely exceed speeds of 100-200 kB/s (even this speed is rare) unless i use bitcomet to download a regular file (not a torrent) in which i can achieve speeds over 1000kB/s.

Any HELP..............THANKS!!

The problem with that one torrent appears to be a slow torrent, probably because your connecting to peers that aren't sending you and data to speak of. Most often this is because they are running way too many torrents, so no one that connects to them will benefit from the connection.

Since your max upload speed is about 800kb/s (100kB/s), this will effect your download speed, because the first rule of bittorrent is that those who upload the most, will download the most. If most of your torrents run from 100-300kB/s, this may be the best you can do, but some should approach your max download speed of 8000kb/s (1000kB/s).

If you want a torrent that will download as fast as your connection will allow, I'd recommend you get one of the torrents for "OpenOffice" at openoffice.org. This will make a good test, and is also a great, and free product.

Once you have confirmed that your capable of downloading at your max line speed, the next step is to find the best settings for your client (bitcomet). The most important setting is to limit your max upload so you have enough bandwidth in reserve to reply to peer requests in a timely manner.

With most connections, a setting of about 80% is ideal, allowing you to upload as much as possible, but not so much as to bog down your responses to requests from peers.

If you have LTseeding enabled, you will need to limit it too. I will give you the settings to try both with LTseed, and without.

W/LTseed.

Global Max Upload 72kB/s

LTseed Max Upload 10kB/s

WO/LTseed

Global max Upload 82kB/s

This should help your download speeds, but remember just because it downloads faster, your still expected to continue the uploading till your share ratio is at very least 1.00.

If you have no other problems, then other settings won't matter as much, but if you have connection problems with BitComet, you may need to limit the max number of connections, because some routers will overload when a large number of connections are made.

I also highly recommend you not......

Thanks for your input, I pretty much figured it was the torrent, probably because they are so old. You are correct, I have experienced downloads of 1000kB/s but mostly on regular direct downloads as I have BitComet as my default downloader................CHEERS!!
