  • Calculation for Score
Score = Points from online time + Points from upload bytes
1. Being online can generate 2 points per hour but 20 points at most per day.
2. Keep uploading files via BitTorrent protocol can generate 1 point per 10MB but 100 points at most per day.
3. Downloading files via BitTorrent protocol doesn't affect Score. The same applies to HTTP and FTP protocol.
4. Score gets refresh in 24 hours.
  • Ranking
Ranking consists of comet  (16), moon  (4), star  (1).
For example: Ranking 5 equals to , Ranking 21 equals to .
  • Max Resources
Max Resources mean the number of connections to P2SP. The more connections to P2SP BitComet gets, the faster downloading could be. The number of connections here doesn't equal to the connections normally launched by BitComet. It only relates to newly designed P2SP system. We are speeding up the one who is willing to upload by involving this.

Audio Video Interleave, known by its acronym AVI, is a multimedia container format introduced by Microsoft in November 1992 as part of its Video for Windows technology. AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a standard container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback. Like DVDs, AVI files support multiple streaming audio and video, although these features are seldom used. Most AVI files also use the file format extensions developed by the Matrox OpenDML group in February 1996. These files are supported by Microsoft, and are unofficially called "AVI 2.0".

AVI is a special case of the Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF), which divides a file's data into blocks, or "chunks." Each "chunk" is identified by a FourCC tag. An AVI file takes the form of a single chunk in a RIFF formatted file, which is then subdivided into two mandatory "chunks" and one optional "chunk". The entire structure of a RIFF file was copied......

Windows XP SP2 limits TCP connection attempts to 10 (quite small ). If there are more concurrent TCP connection attempts, Windows generate a warnning: EventID 4226: TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts. Since XP SP2 there are only 10 concurrent TCP connection attempts possible, while in SP1 it has not been limited. (A connection attemp is a query to a computer, if it accept the TCP connection or not. If the computer is for example no more existent, it will be waited for a few seconds, until a timeout occurs and the connection attemp get canceled. )

BitComet 0.55 or above was modified for SP2 so that they can work in SP2 without any configuration. However, it may cause slow speed at the beginning of downloading, since less peers can be connected at the same time. For those behind NAT or firewalled user, a patch in the option dialog in version 0.71 or later is recommended to fix that issue.

Trackerless

Trackerless in BitTorrent means you do not need to connect to a tracker in order to download, but connect to a distributed DHT Network to find other peers. The DHT Network do not have any centeral server, every client is a small server.

What is DHT Network?

DHT(Distributed Hash Table) is method of a distributed storage for <key, value> pairs. There is no center server in DHT Network, every client take charge of a small range of routing, a small set of data storage, so that in the whole DHT network, data can be found, read and write. The new version of BitComet can connect to Tracker and DHT network, that means file can be download even if all trackers can not be connected. The protocol of DHT Network in BitComet is compatible with BitTorrent Beta 4.1.2, so that they can share the same network. Please note that the DHT in Azureus is not compatible with BitTorrent Beta and thus also not compatible with BitComet.

The DHT algorithm we use is Kademlia (......

Generally, when BitComet first runs in your computer with Windows XP system, you will be notified to set the firewall to block or unblock BitComet, if you enable the system firewall. In this case, you should set it as “unblock”. Or else, you need to change some settings of the firewall according to this guide.

Click “Start”->”Settings”->”Control Panel”->”Windows Firewall”, make sure that “Don’t allow exceptions” is unselected whether the firewall is on or off.
