How to make a custom TV-torrent feed

tvRSS just released some extra features that makes it easier to find the latest episodes of your favorite TV-show. They optimized their search options, and support "search based rss feeds". This makes it easy for anyone to create a personalized TV-torrent feed. This means you can have all your favorite TV-torrents in one feed.

So let's say we want a feed for the latest 24, Lost and Prison Break episodes.

(Note that downloading TV-shows can be illegal in some countries. If so, consider moving to another country or collect the torrents just for fun)

Step 1.

Go to the shows listing on RSStv.net. You'll see a list of all the available shows. Browse through the list and click on your favorite TV-show.

Step 2.

You'll now see a listing of the latest episodes. Take the Prison Break list for example. Notice that there are double postings in the list. This is because there are more distribution/release groups releasing the same episode in different qualities.

Use the search field on the top of the page to narrow down the results untill only see one release per episode. For example, select EZTV as the distribution group and LOL as the release group. Hit "search" and you will see that you narrowed the search results down to one release per episode.

Perfect.

Step 3.

Now we want a rss feed for these customized results. All you have to do is Click on the "Search-based RSS Feed" link

IE8 Performance vs. Google Chrome and Firefox JavaScript lessons

                     IE - Firefox - Chrome

With Microsoft making headway towards the gold build of Internet Explorer 8, the Redmond company has to face an ugly truth. Performance-wise, with emphasis on JavaScript performance, the software giant is getting ready to release a browser inferior to what is already available from rivals Google and Mozilla. Microsoft's aim is to make the next iteration of IE superior to what Internet Explorer 7 brought to the table back in 2006 on Windows XP and the start of 2007 on Windows Vista, and in this regard the company is on the right track. However, there is little focus on shifting Internet Explorer 8 into high gear and making it outrun Firefox 3.1 and Chrome.

window.google_render_ad(); When he launched Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 back in March 2008, Dean Hachamovitch, general manager Internet Explorer, revealed that "some of the tests we have done show pure JScript performance improvements up to 2.5 times. We also measured the performance gains on common Gmail operations, like loading the inbox (34%), opening a conversation (45%) and opening a thread (27%) compared to IE7."

The fact is that, with Google and......

A portable version of uTorrent may come in handy when you're with friends, at school, or at work. It will fit perfectly on every usb-stick, Ipod, mobile phone, or any other device that is recognized a "removable disk".

utorrent portableSetting up a portable uTorrent is easy.

1. Download the latest standalone version, and copy it onto your datastick.

2. Create an empty datafile with notepad or any other text editor, and name it settings.dat

3. Place the settings.dat file in the same folder on your portable disk as uTorrent.

4. Run uTorrent from your portable drive and confugure the options and preferences.

Now you're ready to go. You can start downloading at school, and finish at home. And the good thing is that you don't need to install uTorrent or another BitTorrent client, just a USB-port, that's all you need.

How to run uTorrent in Mac OS X

As a x-Windows guy and an ardent BitTorrenter I can confidently say that uTorrent is one of the best BitTorrent clients available for Windows 95 through Vista. It's lean, takes up very little memory and doesn't need to be installed, you can even run it off a USB pen drive. It also offers all the important features like Selective Downloading, Universal Plug ‘n' Play Support, Super Seeding Mode and RSS Feeds Subscription. Soon we will also be able to use uTorrent via a web-interface.

If you don't like torrents try MP3 Search. The site carries in excess of 50,000 albums from 46,000 artists. Prices start at $0.19 per track. Most tracks are in high quality bitrate, 320 kbps. The site accepts major credit cards.

uTorrent is currently only available for Windows. But that isn't going to stop us from running it in OS X.

We currently have two ways of doing this. The first and more obvious way to do this would be to install Parallels and just run it as we would any other Windows program. The second is with an exciting new program (not so new for Linux users) called CrossOver. CrossOver is still in beta, but is already a very usable and stable alternative to installing a copy of the entire Windows operating system on your Mac, which is essentially what you're doing when you run Parallels.

So, here's what you need to do:
Sadly, CrossOver only works on Intel-Macs, so don't try this on a PPC one (I won't be responsible if it blows up in your face :-P).

Use Gmail to search torrents

Gmail is more than a useful email service. In just a few steps you can turn it into your personal torrent search engine. And by using labels and filters you can keep your inbox clean.

Why should I care?

Well, it helps you to track your favorite tv-show, artist, linux distro or anticipated release. By using rss-feeds, you don't need to search manually, and the torrents you're interested in will be forwarded to your gmail account.

Step 1

Find an rss-feed for your favorite content. RSS feeds keep track of the latest torrents. The good thing is that sites like torrentz and mininova offer search related feeds. So, what you need to do is search for the content you need, and copy the url of the search feed.

You might want to check:
This article if you are particulary interested in TV-torrents

For example, A search for "knoppix" (torrentz | mininova) will give you a list of results and an RSS feed (torrentz | mininova.

mininova torrentz rss

Now, copy the url of the RSS feed and go to step 2

Step 2

Now we have our RSS feed. You could of course put this feed in your favorite RSS reader, but we want to use Gmail to do the job, and nicely archive the torrents. So, go to rssfwd and enter the url of your search feed, and your email address. Rssfwd will now forward all new torrents......

IE8 Beta 2 vs. Google Browser (Chrome) vs. Firefox 3.1 Alpha 2 RC

Vs. Acid2 and Acid3

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, Google Chrome Beta and Firefox 3.1 Alpha 2 Release Candidate are all development milestones of the browsers developed by Microsoft, Google and Mozilla. Of course that with the advent of Google Browser (Chrome) on September 2, 2008, the browser market is bound to see additional competition, and in this context, comparisons are inherent.

 IE - Firefox - Chrome

window.google_render_ad(); IE8 Beta 2, Chrome and Firefox 3.1 have already been thrown against one another in arenas designed to evaluate their resource consumption and the performance of their JavaScript engines. But, naturally, there is always the aspect of web standard compliance and support. For this there are two browser measuring tools, namely the Acid2 and Acid3 tests from the Web Standards Project.

"Acid2 tests features that web designers have been requesting. Everything that Acid2 tests is specified in a Web standard, but not all Web standards are tested. Acid2 does not guarantee conformance with any specification. After careful consideration, we have selected and are testing the features we consider most important for the future of the web," reads an excerpt from the description of the Acid2 Test.

As you can very......

Speed up Bitcomet and uTorrent

Both Bitcomet and uTorrent (and probably other clients) limit half-open tcp connections by default. This means even if you hack the max half-open tcp connections in windows xp, your speed will still be limited. So this is what you need to do:

First of all, read this post that gives you some tips and tricks how to speed up your torrents

1. Hack the max half-open TCP connections

Update: this tweak is NOT recommended if you use uTorrent >1.7, it may lead to unstable behavior.

If you're on XP sp2, your TCP connections are limited to a maximum of 10. This seriously hurts your downloading speed because it wont let you connect to a high amount of ip numbers. It is supposed to slow down viruses because their spreading strategy is to connect to a high amount of ip numbers, but it also cripples your torrent downloads.
A nice way to fix this is to download this patch, it allows you to set the maximum allowed connections to any number you want. Any number between 50 and 100 is ok (more is NOT always better).

2. Configure your torrent client to allow 50-100 max half-open TCP connections

uTorrent: Options > Preferences > Advanced options > net.max_halfopen

tcputorrent

Bitcomet: Options > Preferences > Connection > max half-open TCP

Purchasing Genuine Microsoft Software

Am I buying from a reputable reseller?

Buy from resellers who sell only genuine Microsoft software. Locate a reputable reseller using local resources such as a Chamber of Commerce, the Better Business Bureau, and consumer publications.

In addition to local resellers, you also have the option to purchase genuine Microsoft software online. Learn more about the digital download options at www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/digitalpurchases.

Is a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) included?

A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a label that helps you identify genuine Microsoft software. Retail Microsoft software ships with a COA affixed to the outside of the packaging. If a COA is not present on the packaging, it is not genuine software and is not properly licensed. A COA should never be purchased without the software it authenticates.

TIP: Whether you purchased your software from a retailer, or small or large manufacturer, the COA that authenticates the software will have special features that set it apart from counterfeits. Current COAs have a Port-HoleTM near the middle with interwoven thread that runs vertically through the center. These features change though, so be sure to check the How to Tell site frequently to make sure that you have the most up-to-date information.

Learn more about COAs at www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/coa.

What is a Certificate of Authenticity (COA)?

A Certificate of Authenticity (COA) is a label that helps you identify genuine Microsoft software. A COA is not a software license - it is a visual identifier that assists in determining whether or not the Microsoft software you are running is genuine. However, without it, you will not have a legal license to run Microsoft software. A COA should never be purchased by itself without the software it authenticates.

To help you verify the authenticity of the Microsoft software you acquired, be sure that your software came with one of the following COAs (or a previous version) and that the COA includes the advanced piracy prevention features described.

For software that is purchased separately from a computer through retail channels, the COA will be affixed to the top of the software packaging.
