To most of you who suffer from poor downloading, here are some things that will surely boost your downloading speed.

1. First of all check your upload rate here www.dslreports.com/speedtest?more=1 or here www.speedtest.net (don't click it, just copy and paste, it redirects to some other site) now make a note of your upload speed. IF its in Kb/s (kiloBITS per second) just divide by 8 and you will roughly get the speed in KB/s (kiloBYTES per second).

NOTE: Im using version 1.10 in this post, some of you may have older or newer, I'm also using Vista HOME premium but all of this also works on XP and SOME older versions of windows

HIYA! I've been noticing that some people have some problems with making the right adjsutments in Bitcomet so I made my own VERY QUICK and SMALL guide, that will help you get that GREEN LIGHT you always wanted. If your looking to up your download speed check my other guide. Well here goes!

Well the pics I took are from the .99 version of Bitcomet (hoping that 1.03 is less annoying) so if you notice some things that are different that may be it.

STEP 1. go to OPTIONS> ADVANCED

Check network status: tells you the color of your light

Long time seeding: This is very nice! Put a checkmark......

HELLO!! Here's anther nice thing you should do to really boost your speed in bitcomet and also for direct downloads (ddl).

Theres only one Prerequisite: Have a router (it can work for SOME modems)

Don't know if you have a router? Check here: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm If i'ts not there it's not a router. If your completely sure you use a router, but I'ts not on the list, you will probably have to wait until they add it.

Okay now for some tweaking! (this is for the computer that will be using bitcomet)

Step 1. We set up a static IP. Setting up a static IP forces your router to give your computer the same IP Address. Static IP is what you want for portforwarding that way when you restart, you don't get a different IP each time.
Click the Start button -> Run -> type this: cmd -> press enter or OK

1. Turn off Remote Differential Compression

Remote Differential Compression measures the changes in files over a network to transfer them with minimal bandwidth rather than transferring an entire file that has previously been moved. By constantly checking for file changes, this service can hinder system performance.
To disable this service:

* Open Control Panel
* Switch to Classic View
* Select Program Features
* Choose Turn Windows features on and off
* Scroll down and uncheck Remote Differential Compression

*Special Note: Windows Vista has the same tendency as XP to get bogged down with a bloated and corrupt Windows registry and file system. (The guide recomends RegCure registry cleaner, but I recomend Registry mechanic since I have used it and I know it works)......

I know you all know what a seeder and leacher is but for this quick guide i'll change the leacher definition , and some of you may already know this stuff by using logic but some don't so please:

seeder: one who has the complete torrent file (100%) 

leacher: one who is downloading the file he/she maybe uploading but its still a leacher(less than 100%)

LEACHERS:

1. Read my previous post about speeding bitcomet.

2. Set only one torrent file to download, if you have a high connection you can put 3-5, but leaving only one to be downloading, maximizes your download capability.

3. Download speed is PROPORTIONAL to upload speed (meaning if one goes up the other goes up as well) , so if your downloading a torrent, don't try to seed another torrent at the same time. Because this will cause your download speed to go down, and thus also causing your upload speed to go down. If your a high connection user......
