**UPDATED
To most of you who suffer from poor downloading, here are some things that will surely boost your downloading speed.
1. First of all check your upload rate here www.dslreports.com/speedtest?more=1 or here www.speedtest.net (don't click it, just copy and paste, it redirects to some other site) now make a note of your upload speed. IF its in Kb/s (kiloBITS per second) just divide by 8 and you will roughly get the speed in KB/s (kiloBYTES per second).
NOTE: Im using version 1.10 in this post, some of you may have older or newer, I'm also using Vista HOME premium but all of this also works on XP and SOME older versions of windows
2. Following the picture above go to OPTIONS go to CONNECTION and in the GLOBAL MAX UPLOAD RATE, put 80% of your MAX upload speed (Example: if your upload speed was 115KB/s multiply it by .8 and you get 92KB/s) that is roughly your max upload speed, usually you subtract 4kB/s because oflosses in the line that are inevitable.
Another way of doing this, simple but less accurate, is leaving your global max upload rate on a high leeching torrent (that way it SHOULD be at its highest)and the max number you get that is your max upload.
3. Port Mapping, this is the auto-portforwarding feature of Bitcomet. IF,
and only IF, you already did portfarwarding manually, then you don't have to do this step and you must have
this two options disabled. Put a checkmarck on "Enable NAT/Firewall configuration" to "Remove port on NAT/firewall"
4. Remember the port you already have, now put your listening port between 49152 to 65534. If it slowed down then go back to the one that gave you a good download speed (good download speed is close to the speed your ISP provides you) Check if the port you chose is ok by going here http://www.canyouseeme.org/
**If you have PORT-MAPPING ENABLED (on) and firewalled it will only
see your port if you have bitcomet on, if you close bitcomet and check
your port it will tell you it's closed.
**From "Add tags to new task automatically according to file type" to "Play sound when task finished" are all optional and scarcely affect your download
5. In the Max concurrent download tasks number put it to 1 if you have a low speed connection. If you have a high speed connection you can leave it in 2-4. But keep in mind leaving it at 1 will still be faster.
6. Allow bitcomet trough your firewalls. If you have Vista it will do it automatically after you restart your computer. If it doesn't, or you don't have vista I believe, it is the same process with other windows:
-go to contorl panel and change to classic view
-click the the ALLOW a program through windows firewall
-go to the exceptions tab
-click add port and put Bitcomet in the name and the port you chose for bitcomet in step 4. Do this for TCP and also for UDP
7. Enable "Long-Time seeding" this will make you be able to download from other people who have this option enabled, if you have this option enabled the torrent files that you have stoped will still be seeding (at the limit that you set it to) I leave it at unlimited because I rarely stop my tasks but when I do I set it to 13kB/s
8. Restart your computer doing so the settings will take effect. Open your bitcomet, when you look at the right hand corner you see that lovely, WAN green light with your IP. Check if the port you chose is ok by going here http://www.canyouseeme.org/
**If you have PORT-MAPPING ENABLED (on) and firewalled it will only see your port if you have bitcomet on, if you close bitcomet and check your port it will tell you it's closed.
If you see it yellow (blocked) or worse gray (Unknown) don't go crazy right click and make it check again (at least 3 times) if it still turns out bad. It may be due to your ISP, but you will notice that your max downlaod rate stays relatively the same (well thats in my case anyway)
I know it doesn't affect ME much because I used to get the gray light and I have the same download speed and upload speed as it was in green.
Again try going here http://www.canyouseeme.org/ put one of the ports you chose from step 4 and check if everything is ok AND YOU SHOULDN'T worry about it MUCH (haha). If not pick another port.
That's the guide and thanks for reading.
