A few TIPS for Seeders ans Leachers alike
Size: Large, Medium, Small Sun Dec 2, 07 12:20 PM | Category: All

I know you all know what a seeder and leacher is but for this quick guide i'll change the leacher definition , and some of you may already know this stuff by using logic but some don't so please:

seeder: one who has the complete torrent file (100%)

leacher: one who is downloading the file he/she maybe uploading but its still a leacher(less than 100%)

LEACHERS:

1. Read my previous post about speeding bitcomet.

2. Set only one torrent file to download, if you have a high connection you can put 3-5, but leaving only one to be downloading, maximizes your download capability.

3. Download speed is PROPORTIONAL to upload speed (meaning if one goes up the other goes up as well) , so if your downloading a torrent, don't try to seed another torrent at the same time. Because this will cause your download speed to go down, and thus also causing your upload speed to go down. If your a high connection user you can do it, if not, stick to 1 task only.

SEEDERS

1. Change your MAX upload rate to unlimited. ***This is if you only plan on seeding some torrents and leaving your computer on.

2. If you plan on surfing the net while you upload change it to an 80% of your MAX allowed upload rate ( http://www.speedtest.net/ ). I had this problem occur. I put my MAX upload rate to unlimited (with my univ. connection) and when it reached 983KB/s. Bitcomet would not open and when it finally did it was so slow at doing everything.

3.You can put more than one task to be seeding (I mostly seed 3 torrent tasks at a time), keeping in mind the leachers that are connected. (Happened to me that I left a seeding task on but there where very few leachers to seed to, was only seeding 10kB/s when my max is around 80kB/s)

4. Sometimes do a little math (just a little) if you normally upload up to 100kB/s and your seeding 5 torrents. And you add up there total upload you get 80kB/s this means you can seed another torrent so you can reach the 100kB/s upload.

And that's all from my experience as a seeder if you have something else, just share it with us!

hey thanks for the advice its worked well but i have a question if you could please answer it for me i thought peers that come up local were meant to be better to have so how come when i use a port thats unblocked (green light) 1/2 my sorces are remote and when i use one thats blocked there all local and i get faster speeds could some one please tell me why and i take it it is better to have local rather than remote? if you or any of your visiters could answer this it would be gratley appriciated and thanks for the info on speeding up bitcommet

Rulier Thu Dec 6, 07 09:21 AM

Suposedly when you had all your peer initiations as REMOTE, you would have your port open. And if they where all LOCAL or NAT traversal then you still have something blocking your port.

That is NOT accurate information you see, depending on the torrent that you're about to download, you can get; either all local peers, or all remote peers.

"E.g. If you're living in USA, and you're downloading a japanese torrent, your peer initiations are more than likely to be all Remote."

Thats really a good example that explains it a lot better, if you did'nt understand. It's from the forum

Hope it helps.

I am new to the site and have downloaded my first movie but when I try to play it, only the sample file plays. I know the whole movie has downloaded but cant get it to play. What am I doing wrong?

army3700 Thu Dec 6, 07 11:29 AM

hey i had the same things happend but when i download the movie and it can't be played i just resume the download and let it upload for 1 day, after that i movie can be played ;) this is the seps to do:

1- after downloading the movie and it start to apload i stop the download torrent

2- try to play the movie if its work then its done.

3- if the movie didn't play just resume the stoped torrent and let it 1 day to upload.

4- stop it again and chick the file ( ithink its working now)

why that happend???

okay some time when your torrent reach 99% the connection get faster to download it, so when its done it may have .5% that didnt download right, so you have to stop the torrent and resume it again to let the hash chick to read again the file and after that you will see its still downloading the .5% but it will not show as downloading it will show as uploading :) i hope you understand what i mean ;)

Rulier Thu Dec 6, 07 11:46 AM

Reading army3700's reply I remember that when it finishe hash checking it will show the red arrow pointing up (uploading) but at the same time it will be downloading it stays like that for a few minutes.

It's probably due to what he says it still needed some more info to complete the file.

what army3700 says is indeed true but if u don't want to wait for another 1 day uploading to see the movie theres another but similar way to do it. after finish downloading (100% download but actually there is stil some file not finish download actually) stop the task and right click the task, select manual hash check, if it's indeed not finish downloading then the percentage should change to 99.99% or something near to 100%. then start the task again. this should download the remaining file that not finish downloading before

2 times i down loaded movies and i get no sound what do i do down load a new version of the movie?

Rulier Sun Dec 9, 07 12:35 PM

Well I beleive that it has to do with codecs. Download ONE of this two:

MPCstar or K-lite codec pack

I recommend you MPC star, since it's just install and play, while the codec pack you have to install MANUALLY the actual codecs. But I use the codec pack, cause of preferences.

IN THE NEWER versions of bitcomet go to TOOLKITS->DOWNLOAD MPCstar. Ai'nt that handy?

a movie i downloaded won't play it's at 100% and is uploading, i did that manual hash thing but it still goes to 100%, it only plays the sample please help

Rulier Sun Feb 24, 08 08:20 PM

well if you followed what army3700 put above and you still see the previes even if you hit play on bitcomet or look it up on your download folder. Then i believe you probably downlaoded a apreview of he movie (which is highly unlikely). It may be problems with your player or codecs

for downloading a torrent i should look at more seeders or leachers???????????

Rulier Tue Apr 14, 09 05:05 AM

It should have both, but what you want is to download the file 100% then you should look for seeders.

How long do I leave my computer on to seed well. I always have a bad seeding rating no matter how long I leave my computer running while the seeding is going on. IT keeps telling me I'm bad or something so how long does it take to be a good seeder. Do you think I have my settings wrong or something. It took me long enough to fiqure out how to download, convert etc but I want to share according to the courtesy rule of take one share one. What am I doing wrong. Thanks in advance if you could give me a few hints'

How bad exactly IS your "seeding rating", I'm assuming your referring to upload rate. If you want to reach the 100points BitComet gives you leaving your PC on for 12hours uploading at a constant rate of 26Kb/s is enough. Which I beleive if you have a connection between 512kbps-1.5Mbps 30-50Kb/s is enough. Other wise you wouldn't be able to surf the net adequately enough.

I have a hwo to tune up your settings in bitcomet post, it's kinda bland but it should help you. Other than that a bit more info on how many seeders and leachers the torrent has and your connection speed is needed to help you out more
