Port Forwarding and Static IP

HELLO!! Here's anther nice thing you should do to really boost your speed in bitcomet and also for direct downloads (ddl).

Theres only one Prerequisite: Have a router (it can work for SOME modems)

Don't know if you have a router? Check here: http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm If i'ts not there it's not a router. If your completely sure you use a router, but I'ts not on the list, you will probably have to wait until they add it.

Okay now for some tweaking! (this is for the computer that will be using bitcomet)

Step 1. We set up a static IP. Setting up a static IP forces your router to give your computer the same IP Address. Static IP is what you want for portforwarding that way when you restart, you don't get a different IP each time.
Click the Start button -> Run -> type this: cmd -> press enter or OK

In the MS-DOS that pops up type this: ipconfig/all then press enter

Don't worry your not going to do anything scary in the MS-DOS. Your just going to look at what is in the red boxes.

You probably see a less clutter than mine (my connection weird) but just write down this:

IP Address: (or IPv4)

Subnet Mask:

Default Gateway:

DNS Servers: (depending on connection you may have two, write BOTH of them down)

Step 2. Click the Start button -> My network places. Under Network tasks on your left panel, click on "View Network connections"-> Double click the connection you use for the internet-> click Properties-> Scroll down the window untill you locate Internet Protocol TCP/IP.

For VISTA users Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center ->Click on "View Status" -> Click Properties

That should be the window yo have right now

Step 3. Click ONCE on Internet Protocol TCP/IP to highlight it -> Click Properties

Step 4.  Click: "use the following IP Addresses". Put here what I told you to write down froom the MS-DOS command window.l
The DNS server addresses will be entered separately, click Use the following DNS server addresses, and input your DNS server(s).
Once you've done that, click Ok, then Close.

STEP 5. Go to http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm and locate your Router model/brand or one similar. Then, locate BitComet, and follow the instructions onscreen.

STEP 6. When you come to the step where it states "Please enter the static ip you want to forward to:" And it's 192.168.2.[space here] Input the last digit of your IP address into the space. The Static IP is the same IP Address as the one you saw in MS-DOS when you typed ipconfig/all

(For VISTA users)

I have XP

The location of the network sharing center is different but the steps you have to do are the same from XP to Vista. I find it easier to find the network sharing center on XP than on Vista (think its directly on the control panel)
