Hi Friends,
Wanted you to introduce you to my best buddies...
1. BC Rich Mockingbird
2. Montana Semi-Acoustic
These are two of the guitars that I currently own, they keep me occupied
all the time... although I'm not very good at guitarring... I still can't
imagine being without them
Mockingbird
Features : 9
This is a modern version of the classic Mockingbird design. You have the radical Mockingbird body shape in agathis wood. The top is carved and features a beautiful quilt maple veneer and see through finish. The neck is bolt-on satin finished maple with rosewook fingerboard. Come with two standard BC Rich humbuckers; controls are 2 volume, 1 tone, and 3-way switch. My favorite feature is that it is strung through the body.
The fancy finish is the only extravegance. Includes white binding around the body which helps the finish which nicely offsets the finish. Everything else is pretty standard for an import rock guitar. Everything is well done, though.
Sound : 8
Frankly, it sounds exactly like you would expect, maybe a bit better. The body is thinner and lighter than older Mockingbirds so the sound is a bit thinner. Strings through the body helps a lot and sustain is better than most imports. The pickups are nothing special but are quite quiet, which is a nice change from most imports.
While it has a decent clean sound, it really shines distorted. Big suprise, eh?
Action, Fit, & Finish : 9
If you remember that this guitar was built "over there" and that it sells on the street for under $500US then you have to be impressed. The parts are solid and the guitar just feels good. I love the satin finish on the nect. All guitars need a setup off the bat and this one is super easy to get just right.
Reliability/Durability : 8
Hard to tell since it is brand new. The only area that could be a problem is that great looking top. My guess is that the laquer and the veneer are pretty thin. Any chip will go right through.
The hardware is tight and solid.
Montana
Features : 8
This is a very legendary jumbo size semi acoustic guitar. The back of the guitar has a rosewood finish and the guitar top is made of spruce. The guitar features a very sleek Sonica 4 band Equalizer which is quite impressive.
The whole inside and outside of the guitar is very beautifully designed, although the fretboard of the guitar is not very fancy, the keys the pegs are really cool.
Sound : 9
The sound of this guitar is way way fantastic (no beat for this). The body is of the guitar is extremely lighter which makes it very comfortable to carry the guitar. The Bronze finish to the strings makes the guitar sound brilliant
the whole guitar and its sound are really enticing.
Action, Fit, & Finish : 7
The guitar's finish is great but the fret borad would have been better with really fancy markers also the female jack from the equalizer somtimes seems to get lose and slips otherwise the guitar is a real master piece.
Reliability/Durability : 8
This guitar is really reliable as well as durable and has been with me for almost 4 years now... but I've taken real good care of this buddy.
Next one on my list...
Its the Gibson Les Paul (Black Beauty)... right now I'm saving some for this expensive but very powerful beast :).
