The teams, each comprising between two and four members, would vie for cash and prizes totalling RM28,000.
Shirley Tan, a teacher from SMK USJ 12, who drove with her two students and a former student, said she could not reveal their “secret task.”
“But we are required to take pictures of pomelos in a creative manner, and I guess the best place to stop will be Ipoh,'' she added.
Eighteen-year-old Simon Dall, an Australian residing here, said the aim of his team was to be the grand winner.
“I have not been to Penang, but I often hear that the food there is great, and I am sure we will come up with some creative videos,'' he added.
Ngiam said she was impressed with the response and happy to see youngsters participating in the contest.
“I only managed to see a handful of the videos that were submitted earlier, but I am sure that more creative ones will be produced during the second phase of the contest,'' she added.
The Star will cover the cost of accommodation, petrol and toll and the contestants will be equipped with Canon camcorders for their “arduous” task.
Drive for Food, organised by The Star Online, is an online competition that rewards contestants for capturing on video their love for food, cars or travel.
