Today I want to bring for your attention my next post about the international musical project FOLKEART.
The first post and information about the project you can find here:http://blog.bitcomet.com/svetlana/post_41853/
Here I only want to mention that the group has now released one more album:
Songs Of Yore
But today I want to tell about a song from their first album:
A Nordic Poem
Horned Trolls And Mystical Folk
The song tells us about few other people from different worls of Norse mythology. Who were they?
Norse mythology speaks about nine worlds that make up the created Universe. These worlds are all connected by the roots and branches of the great world tree, Ygdrassil, as well as being subject to the web of Wyrd.
Odin travelled freely through these worlds on the back of mighty eight-legged stallion, Sleipnir.
The Nine Worlds in Norse mythology were:
Alfheim (elves),
Alfheim (Alf = elf + heim = home) is the home of the light elves and their ruler, Frey. The worlds of Asgard, Alfheim, and Vanaheim (as well as Valhalla) are located on the highest level of the universe.
Vanaheim (Vanir),
Jotunheim (giants),
Jotunheim is a region in Norse mythology that was home to the frost giants and rock giants. It is in the middle region of the Norse universe. Jotunheim is where Mimir's well of wisdom is located. Thrym is the ruler of Jotunheim.
Svartalfheim (dark-elves),
Svartalfheim is a region in Norse mythology that was the home of the dark elves. Svartalfheim is in the middle region of the nine worlds, on the same level as Midgard.
Nidavellir (dwarves),
The Dwarves were one of the Free Peoples of Middle Earth. They called themselves Khazad, which was the name given to them by Aule, their creator. After the awakening of the Elves, the Dwarves were divided into Seven Folk, each with their own king and ancestral hall. They were master craftsmen and miners, working with stone and metal. In the mines of Moria they discovered mithril, silver metal which was very hard yet lightweight. In battle they favored long handled single and double-bladed axes. They stood 4.5 to 5 feet tall, and lived to about the age of 250. Their population dwindled due to losses in battle and the few numbers of women.
Muspelheim (fire, a bright, flaming, hot world in the southern region),
Muspelheim is a region in Norse mythology that was the home of desolation. Muspelheim is in the lowest region of the Norse universe and is a land of fire.
In concert with the ice of Niflheim, Muspelheim made the first creature.
The fire giant Surt rules Muspelheim. At Ragnarok, Surt will set the world tree on fire and kill Freyr.
Niflheim (the dead, the lowest level)
Niflheim (Niflheimr) is one of the nine worlds mentioned in Norse mythology. Niflheim is a realm of cold, possibly the location of Hel's realm. Niflheim is the lowest of the worlds, beneath the third root of Yggdrasil. Its Goddess is Hel, the daughter of Loki.
And below is lyrics of the song:
Horned Trolls And Mystical Folk
Horned trolls and mystical folk
Within the deep woods of twilight
Ethereal misty fingers entwine
Crooked boughs and mossy roots
Smell of the rain soaked ground.
Yet hark! What be this sound
Coming from afar?
Haunting tunes, the fairy song
They join in rings to dance
Plucking fiddles hewn of oak
Dwell in a citadel of fog
Horned trolls and mystical folk!
These horned trolls and mystical folk!
They dwell in the brooks
The dwell on the trees!
They live under rock,
They live by the sea!
Astride frogs and dragon flies
The travel far and wide
Mortal dreamers they invite
To their realm of ever light!
Perchance in thy strangest dremas
You glimpse fairies soynd asleep.
There by the creek.
Yet deeper still
They join in rings to dance
Plucking fiddles hewn of oak
Dwell in a citadel of fog
Horned trolls and mystical folk!
These horned trolls and mystical folk!
They dwell in the brooks
The dwell on the trees!
They live under rock,
They live by the sea!
