Nijū Mensō no Musume
(二十面相の娘, Nijū Mensō no Musume? lit. Daughter of the 20-Faces) is a
Japanese manga series written and illustrated by manga author Shinji
Ohara. The manga was serialized in the seinen manga magazine Comic
Flapper between 2002 and 2007, but continued serialization in the same
magazine with the title Nijū Mensō no Musume Utsushiyo no Yoru since
October 5th, 2007. An anime adaptation started broadcast on April 12,
2008, and is being co-produced by Bones and Telecom Animation Film.
Story
Chiko,
who had been leading a lonely life because her aunt is trying to kill
her, is kidnapped by the Phantom Thief Nijū-Mensō (20-Faces) and set
out an adventure into the strange world. She gradually changes as she
encounters new friends and places. But strange events start happening
revolving around the mystery of "Legacy of the 20-Faces". So Chiko has
to move forward, regardless on how checkered her life will become.
My Thoughts
Kinda reminded me of Lupin III but this is way darker than the
latter. It's kinda interesting that our heroine is somehow saved
from her "lonely" life by a thief who only furthers her
anxienties...talk about irony but it's better than getting killed
right?
I wonder if she'll set out her revenge on that aunt of hers...well,
that's what we'll find out...and btw, she's cute...kinda reminded me of
Haruhi (Ouran High School Host Club)
OP and ED aside, this anime's definitely worth watching for! And just
as I previously mentioned, this anime does remind me of Lupin III though Nijū-Mensō (Twenty Faces) is much more sexier than the latter (I still love you Lupin!
) The 1st episode seemed to be slow-paced at first, focusing on Chiko
and her attitude towards her family though it'll be revealed later on
as to why. Honestly, I would have hated her had I not read the plot of
this animé beforehand but even so, her so-called "tantrums" kind of
annoyed me still...well, she's just a child after all. Throughout the
episode, I kept on wondering how Nijū-Mensō would get to her and obviously I had not anticipated that it would be that kind butler (seriously forgotten that he did the same when he took that Angel Box on the first scene...baka me
) overall, it's a sort of happy ending on the first episode but Chiko's adventure has even yet to start...
