How many people get caught in the trap? Your best friend has just bought a computer and doesn't really understand what they are doing, you with having a little knowledge feel obliged too help them and you install the software for them inadvertently installing the wrong file version by mistake and they get loads of warnings and all of a sudden you are to blame for the obvious demise of their machine and yet  they still don't know what is wrong.

This week I have had numerous conversations about Nero and Windows Vista™both of which I was informed were no good and neither were the people who were trying to help them. This is completely untrue and unfounded there is usually a solution for all P.C. bugs.

Nero supports the new operating system Windows Vista™ since the October 2006 Web Release
(version 7.5.7.0 and higher). As previous versions of Nero 7 cannot be installed on
Windows Vista™; you need to update to the newest version of Nero 7 which you will find on Nero 7 for vista
www.nero.com / Downloads Section.

Here is a scenario for contemplation.

You tried to install Nero you think everything is going ok and then receive a warning that a previous version of Nero is installed and cant continue you then try to install a different file version and still it wont install. So obviously you then went to add/remove programs and no entry found to uninstall it so you think you friends a complete waste of time and don't know what they are doing. If you encounter problems with your Nero 7 installation, please use the Nero General Clean-Tool You can download it from the support section on the Nero web site  Nero removal tool Remember to note your serial number as you will need it.

Retrieving the Serial Number

If you want to install a Windows Vista™ compatible version of Nero 7 Essentials on Windows
Vista™, you need to have the serial number of your old Nero 7 Essentials version. In most
cases, the serial number of your Nero 7 suite can be found in the disc case or on the paper
sleeve of the disc case. If the serial number is embedded in your Nero 7 disc, you will not
have a written serial number. In this case, you can retrieve it during the installation procedure
of the update. You simply need to start the installation of the Nero 7 Essentials update,
which you can download from Nero essentials update follow the installation
wizard and use the How to find the Serial Number link.
To do so, proceed as follows:
1. Start the installation of the Nero 7 Essentials update (from disc or from your download).
The installation wizard will start.
2. Follow the installation wizard until the Customer Information screen is displayed: Click on the How to find the Serial Number link.
The Customer Information Tips screen is displayed:
Retrieving the Serial Number.
4. If you cannot find the serial number printed on the paper sleeve or on the disc case, insert
your previous version of Nero 7 Essentials disc into the disc drive of your P.C.
The installation process of the previous version of Nero 7 Essentials will start automatically.
5. Click on the button to cancel this installation process.
6. Go back to the Customer Information Tips screen.
7. Click on the Check button of the Customer Information Tips screen.
All disc drives of your PC are checked in order to find the serial number. A dialogs box informs
you that the serial number has been found and has been applied to the installation.
8. If you started the Nero 7 Essentials update process from a disc, you have to make sure, that
this disc is inserted again into the same drive as it was, when you started the update installation
process.
9. Click on the OK button.
The Customer Information screen is displayed again and you may go on following the
installation wizard to complete the installation process.
If a dialogs box informs you, that the serial number could not be found, please check
whether you have inserted the correct disc with the "old" Nero 7 Essentials version into
your disc drive and try again. The Buy Now button leads you to our online shop on
www.nero.com to purchase a copy of Nero 7 if you do not already own one.
If a dialogs box informs you, that a Nero 6 serial number has been found, please make sure,
that your Nero 7 Essentials disc is inserted into your disc drive. The Upgrade Now button
leads you to www.nero.com to purchase an upgrade to Nero 7, if necessary.

Good post I see PLP blaming Vista for problems that is not Vista fault, Check your Updates check your versions, Check your drivers, 90% of the time it's never vista's fault.

I been running Ultimate 64 bit and only problem I have is My blue ray Burner did not a a available Vista Driver. So I waited and I think a week ago one became available installed now my Burner works lol I love my 8 gig of 1066 ram lol

nero does an exceptionally crappy job of cleaning up after itself during uninstalls. i wish they'd drop the spyware server check-in. unfortunately, that has become routine for this company. maybe if they just left a serial in the registry from a prior installation and did other parts of the (un/in)stall correctly, people upgrading wouldn't have to wonder why stuff isn't working. i suspect that piece of software crap called nerochk.exe is might be a culprit.
